What is it.

Hypertension is defined as sustained blood pressure ≥ 130/80 mmHg. It is one of the leading modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease, stroke, and kidney disease — and is largely asymptomatic until complications arise.

Why does it happen.

Blood pressure rises when blood vessels are stiff or constricted, cardiac output is elevated, or the kidneys retain excess sodium. Key drivers include: visceral fat (which produces inflammatory compounds that stiffen vessel walls), insulin resistance (which activates the sympathetic nervous system and promotes sodium retention), chronic cortisol elevation (which raises vascular tone and blood volume), and arterial inflammation.

Nutritional contributors include magnesium deficiency (magnesium relaxes vascular smooth muscle), potassium insufficiency (counteracts sodium effect on blood pressure), and omega-3 deficiency (EPA and DHA have documented vasodilatory effects). Sleep apnoea is a frequently underdiagnosed driver.

How AdeaHealth helps.

We assess the underlying drivers — inflammatory, metabolic, hormonal, and nutritional — and target them systematically. For many clients, addressing these drivers significantly reduces blood pressure, reducing or delaying the need for medication.

What we test and measure.

  • Blood pressure & pulse: baseline assessment
  • Fasting glucose & insulin: insulin resistance as hypertension driver
  • Cortisol: HPA axis contribution to vascular tone
  • hs-CRP & inflammatory markers: vascular inflammation
  • Magnesium: vasodilation and smooth muscle function
  • Omega-3 Index: EPA and DHA blood pressure effects
  • ADMA & SDMA: endothelial function markers (Advanced panel)
  • Kidney function: creatinine, eGFR, uric acid
  • InBody composition: visceral fat as primary modifiable driver

What you can expect.

Meaningful blood pressure reduction through targeted intervention. All changes are managed in coordination with the client's treating physician where medication is involved. Wearable monitoring allows continuous blood pressure tracking within the programme.

Clinical note: Clients on antihypertensive medication must not reduce or discontinue medication without medical guidance. AdeaHealth works alongside the treating physician — not independently.
